Does your workplace require testing and tagging?

 

As per the Electrical Safety Regulation 2013 (Qld), an employer must regularly inspect and test specified electrical equipment in your workplace.

Testing and tagging is all part of occupational health and safety, you are required to make sure the environment you and your staff work in is safe and compliant.

What is test and tag?

​

Testing and tagging is a process of which a competent person does an electrical safety test on an electrical appliance to deem it safe in accordance with AS/NZS 3760.

Once the visual and overall electrical tests have been completed and the item has been deemed safe, a tag is the put on for the required testing period.

These electrical tests help our staff to uncover potential electrical problems in your workplace or home before they become a serious hazard.

What tests do we do?

 

Based off the appliance there are numerous tests we do to ensure the electrical item is safe for use.

These tests include:

• Visual Inspection 

​

- This visual inspection is to ensure the appliance doesn't have any cosmetic damage including exposed copper conductors and single insulated cables. This is one of the most important stages as this is normally overlooked by many people. Access to live conductors can cause serious injury.

• Earth Continuity Test​

​

- This test is to ensure that the electrical item has suitable earth continuity from the plug top to the frame. This test ensures that the earth has a resistance lower than 1 ohm.

• Insulation Resistance Test

​

- The insulation resistance test is measuring the resistance between the active/neutral conductors to the earth & any other exposed metal on an appliance. This test is to make sure this is no electrical leakage to any part of the appliance. The overall resistance needed to pass this test needs to be higher then 1,000,000 ohms.

​

Once these tests have been completed and the item has been deemed safe, a tag is the put on for the required testing period.
